DISEASE AND DISORDER PART 2

Last week we talked about diseases and disorder. Today we will also talk the second of diseases  and disorder.

condition: a general term for diseases, lesions and disorders; often excludes mental health, where disorder is preferred (eg Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders)
disease: a condition that impairs the normal function of a person, plant or animal. Diseases can be communicable (spread to a person from an animal, the environment or another person – eg measles, HIV, malaria, influenza) or noncommunicable (caused by environmental or genetic factors – eg cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases)
disorder: a synonym for disease (ie a functional abnormality), used for noninfectious conditions such as physical, metabolic or mental conditions; in mental health, mental disorder is preferred to mental illness
illness (sickness): a synonym for disease but often used to indicate the person’s experience of a disease (ie a person can have a disease without being ill or sick)
syndrome: the occurrence of several associated medical signs, symptoms or other characteristics (eg Down syndrome)

There are four main types of disease: infectious diseasesdeficiency diseaseshereditary diseases (including both genetic diseases and non-genetic hereditary diseases), and physiological diseases. Diseases can also be classified in other ways, such as communicable versus non-communicable diseases. The deadliest diseases in humans are coronary artery disease (blood flow obstruction), followed by cerebrovascular disease and lower respiratory infections.[3] In developed countries, the diseases that cause the most sickness overall are neuropsychiatric conditions, such as depression and anxiety.[

DISEASE AND DISORDER

Hello guys so this week i'm back with another interesting topic for this week. We will be talking about disorder. First lets understand the difference between the two.

What is a disease?

One of the original definitions of a disease was published in the British Medical Journal as early as 1900.
Definition of disease: Resulting from a pathophysiological response to external or internal factors.Today, doctors treat and diagnose a disease based on abnormalities in systemic functions – for example, cardiovascular disease.
These abnormalities can cause both physical and emotional signs and symptoms, as well as pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems or death.

What is a disorder?

While doctors diagnose and treat a disease, a disorder is defined as follows.
Definition of disorder: A disruption of the disease to the normal or regular functions in the body or a part of the body.
For example, a disorder resulting from cardiovascular disease is an arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat. An arrhythmia is not a disease itself – it’s an abnormal heartbeat that occurs as a result of having cardiovascular disease.
Disorders can be classified into Mental, Physical, Genetic, Emotional, Behavioural, Structural

So in essence disorders are basically side effects of diseases
Hope you were able to learn something for today. next week we will go deeper in understanding how we can aplly this knowledge to keep us healthy. Until then stay healthy.

EMOTIONAL WELLBEING

Hey Guys this week we would be talking about emotional well being and how to take care of ourselves not just only physically but also mentally and emotionally.

Emotional self-care is caring for your emotional needs by identifying what it is you’re feeling and then moving forward in a way that honors yourself and those emotions. When our emotional self-care need are not being addressed, we tend to feel frustrated without any plan. Emotional wellness inspires self-care, relaxation, stress reduction and the development of inner strength. It is important to be attentive to both positive and negative feelings and be able to understand how to handle these emotions. Emotional wellness also includes the ability to learn and grow from experiences. Emotional well-being encourages autonomy and proper decision making skills. It is an important part of overall wellness.

Emotional wellness allows you to accept how you are feeling. Once you accept your feelings, you can begin to understand why you are feeling that way, and decide how you would like to act in response to those feelings. Being emotionally well grants you the power to express feelings without any constraints. In turn, you will be able to enjoy emotional expression and be capable of forming supportive and interdependent relationships with others.
In order to begin the route to emotional wellness you must always remember to be optimistic. Optimism allows you to greet all emotions—both positive and negative—with a confident attitude that allows you to learn from your mistakes. Once you have mastered emotional wellness, you will experience life a little differently. Your life will be more balanced and you will develop a deep sense of awareness.

There are many ways to improve or maintain good emotional health.
  • Be aware of your emotions and reactions
  • Express your feelings in appropriate ways
  • Think before you act
  • Manage stress
  • Strive for balance
  • Take care of your physical health
  • Connect with others
  • Find purpose and meaning
  • Stay positive
